Facebook has become the most preferred social networking site for all the teenagers while Google Plus and Twitter comes second and third respectively. This survey was carried out in 14 cities on 12365 students who are studying in class 8 – 12. About 90% students polled use Facebook followed by 65% Google Plus by the respondents. Twitter stood third with 44.1 %. The most interesting part is that 45.5 % students said that they use social networking sites for completing the school assignments in a survey that was conducted by the largest software exporter of the country- TCS.
As far as studies are concerned, Wikipedia has topped with about 63.1 %. This was followed by the PDFs that were used by 50.9 % and online videos with 44%. About 66% students said that they prefer online shopping. About 64.5 % children buy electronic gadgets while 61.2 % buy books and 41.3 % get their tickets. When asked about the messaging application, about 72% children used Whatsapp. In addition, 52.2 % parents have access to the social media accounts of their children and they monitored their online activity. To get updates with the latest news, about 76.3 % used television and newspaper and 52.7 % used online sources. Only 20 % teenagers said that they subscribe to the news feed while 35.7 % stated that the shared URLs on the social networking sites help them. This helps them to be aware of all the current happenings in the world.
